It’s a week to Mardi Gras, and so far I’ve only been to one parade, the CAAWS Krewe of Mutts parade. This is a local animal shelter which has a parade every year to raise money and awareness for rescue animals.
Of course I wanted to do a Mardi Gras themed look, so this is actually a variation of what I wore that day. I got some rhinestones to decorate my phone with the other day, and I thought it’d be fun to add them. It’s Mardi Gras, so the more over the top, the better!
Laissez le bon temps rouler is kind of the unofficial Mardi Gras “slogan” and it translates to “Let the good times roll!” in Cajun French. (Just like the LUSH cleanser!) If you’re unfamiliar, Mardi Gras, or Carnival as it’s known in other parts of the world, is a last hurrah before the 40 days of fasting for Lent. It translates to Fat Tuesday because everyone eats, boozes and parties as much as possible before all the fun goes away.
The colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold and they have specific meanings for the holiday: purple stands for justice, green is for faith, and gold is for power.

This was a really fun look to do and I think my eyes kind of look like a king cake! If you’ve never had it, king cake is a traditional dessert eaten around Mardi Gras. It’s a brioche style ring cake which iced, decorated with purple, green and gold sugar and flavored with cinnamon and sometimes cream cheese and other fillings like fruit. There’s a little baby put inside to represent the baby Jesus; whomever finds the baby has to buy the cake next party / year.
As my friend Maggie said, “So yeah, just like in real life, you really don’t wanna get the baby.” 😛
Have you ever celebrated Mardi Gras?
