Helloooo! I’m baaack! This is a boring, picture-less post because I realized a few months ago that I’d abandoned this blog for the bobillionth time and I need to get my butt back in gear before it escapes to the nebulous depths of my to-do list which includes things like “play Final Fantasy VIII again” and “organize my iTunes library.”

So, new year, new things, and I thought I’d go over my current skincare routine! Keep reading for more!

My acne has been doing a lot better since the last time I posted one of these, so my routine has changed a little bit. I used to take an antibiotic (originally doxycycline, then minocycline) every other day, as well as use a benzoyl peroxide face wash. However, I weaned off the minocycline about half a year ago (per my derm’s recommendation). I also tried another generic version of the BP wash in September, as my normal kind was sold out, and I had a terrible reaction — my skin was scaly, crusty and red and sore all over for days. I didn’t wash or even put normal moisturizer on during those days; just a light layer of Aquaphor was about all I could stand. During that time, I obviously stopped using the BP wash and found my skin was doing alright, so I started to skip it entirely.

I hope to do reviews of these products soon, but don’t hold me to that! (Or do, I don’t know what motivates me anymore. :-_-: )

Here’s how my skincare routine goes lately:

When I wake up,

I wash with the Kao Biore Marshmallow Whip Facial Washing Foam (Rich Type).
I tone with the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner, then while my face is still slightly damp, I apply The Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF30.
If I plan to actually leave the house (which is not often lately… ::x: ), I’ll apply Kao Biore Aqua UV Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++ before the Vit C moisturizer for added sun protection. Can’t be too careful!

Before I go to sleep,

I double-cleanse. If I’m wearing makeup, I use Kose Softymo Speeding Cleansing Oil, my favorite cleansing oil, to take it off.
If I’m not wearing makeup, I use Kose Softymo Speeding Cleansing Liquid, only because I bought it a long time ago and found it meh, but I’m trying to use it up.
Either way, after I use those, I wash again with the Kao Biore Marshmallow Whip Facial Washing Foam (Rich Type), and tone again with the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner.

At this point,

I go one of two ways. About every other day, I’ll apply my topical retinoid, tretinoin, in a thin layer on my face. After letting it sink in, I’ll use a few drops of Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil. The tretinoin dries my skin out really badly, and the facial oil helps to keep that at bay. This is a good oil, but not worth the price tag. Once I use the bottle up, I’ll probably return to my cheaper camellia oil from Japan. Then I follow up with the Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream to moisturize. Kerry of Skin and Tonics turned me on to this stuff, and it’s really as amazing as she says. (By the way, Kerry does GREAT skincare reviews, so definitely check her blog out!)
If I’m not using the retinoid that day, I’ll apply one and a half pumps of Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence all over my face, then use the Tony Moly Red Appletox Honey Cream. I don’t use the Tony Moly cream when I use my retinoid, because I don’t want the AHAs in that to conflict with my retinoid.

A couple of times a week,

I’ll also break out my Spa Sonic when cleansing, to give my face a little bit of gentle manual exfoliation. However, since the retinoid and Tony Moly moisturizer provide chemical exfoliation, I don’t need to do this step very often.

And that’s it lately! It seems quite fiddly, and actually has a few more steps than my old routine, but I’ve found it’s done wonders for my skin. The products I’m using now, with the exception of the Softymo Speedy Cleansing Liquid, are all almost HG status for me (if you know me, I’m very wary of giving that label to just anything) and they work great with my skin type and concerns.

Have you tried any of these products before? What’s your current routine like?

I’ll try to come back soon with something more interesting! My boyfriend and I just bought a house (heeeeey~) and we finally just got moved and settled in. That’s the main reason why I disappeared for so long. I’m trying to get the office set up for productivity right now, but my cosplay scraps are all over… I’m doing Mikasa Ackerman from Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan for this year’s Anime Matsuri. Anyway, I’ll try my best to get up to full force soon. Until then~

I purchased all the products mentioned in this post. This post contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own.

    • I thought it was rather gimmicky, and there are a lot of pieces that I think are more gimmick than function, but I heard so many good things about the Honey Appletox cream. If you only get one thing, I really recommend it!
