I got my April ipsy bag last week, so I immediately took pics of it and began to write up this post. However, I’ve been battling something for just about three weeks now that’s totally sapped all my strength and energy. I’ve had a sore, swollen throat, constant headaches (also once a migraine), sinus congestion, coughs and body aches, and have been so fatigued that even going to the grocery store left me a useless pile for the rest of the day. So, I’ve put off finishing this post until just now and if it seems disjointed or strange, blame it on my illness. :shiver:

April ipsy bag

My April ipsy bag was themed “Beauty Rocks!” and came in a plastic square bag with a print of a record player. Since there were a lot of music festivals this month, it seems appropriate!

City Color Mousse Eyeshadow in White Gold

City Color Mousse Eyeshadow in White Gold

The City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse is really interesting. I thought it would be a simple cream shadow, but it really does have a light and fluffy mousse texture. You only need a tiny dab though and it blends out into a beautiful white gold. I actually am really liking this shadow. Happily, there is a small plastic insert underneath the lid to help prevent the mousse from drying out.

Benefit Lollitint

I am not a big fan of Benefit’s original Benetint because I found it hard to control the color, so I didn’t have high hopes for this. I also thought the color was really strange for a blush — a medium lilac-y mauve. However, lollitint actually blends very well and translates into more of an orchid flush (Radiant Orchid, perhaps?) on my skin. The lasting power is not so great, however.

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Black Velvet

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Black Velvet

I was really excited to see this in my April ipsy bag! I am a huge fan of Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners, and I was especially intrigued about their newest offering, Black Velvet. This is supposed to be a super dark liner that smudges easily — it’s meant to provide a kohl-like finish in the convenience of a pencil. Perversion is supposed to be their blackest black, so I compared the two above. I love how matte black it applies. Because of its matte finish, it actually looks a bit blacker than Perversion. It does smudge out much nicer, almost like a powder shadow. This may be my new HG pencil liner! Even Perversion can transfer a bit if the day is very sweaty or hot, but I’ve been wearing Black Velvet almost daily since I received it, and ZERO raccoon eyes!

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm in Acid Pink

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm in Acid Pink

This is the second Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm I’ve received in my ipsy bag. The first was a shade called Big Apple. Just like before, my thoughts are that this product is named really oddly — it’s much too pigmented to be considered a “tint”, and it provides almost no moisturization when on, so definitely can’t be considered a “balm” in any sense of the word. However, the shade is really pretty. It reminds me a bit of my OCC Lip Tar in January Rising.

Kiss lashes in Pretty

The Kiss Looks So Natural lashes are definitely not so natural on me! These lashes have tapered tips so that they look more natural, but the length is wild. I mean, I know I have short, stubby lashes but I can’t imagine someone having natural lashes this long! However, ignoring the length, the lashes are really nice and fluttery and are pretty natural-looking from the front… maybe a little bit too much. I need something in between ‘natural’ and ‘drag’ for my lashes.

Overall, I am really happy with this month’s bag! The only dud was the Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm, which will probably be thrown in a sad corner of my makeup vanity.

Alright, back to resting… I haven’t been this sick for this long in a long time, and it’s really been kicking my butt.

What did you think of my April ipsy bag? What did you get in yours?
